Beans (French) 620cm15cm x 30cm
Beetroot
 Detroit Red Glow
015cm10cm x 20cmSown 20 for RB3 29/4/18 - unsucccesful Bought - Andy's batch Sow directly outside in a well prepared seed bed in shallow drills (1.5cm deep) from mid April until June.
Broccoli (Purple)
 F1 Monciano
260cm60cm x 60cmSown 5 29/04/18 - unsuccesful germination. Need to sow direct. Bought. Sow thinly direct into a finely raked, warm, moist seedbed at a depth of 1.3cm ("). Transplant subsequent plants with a trowel or dibber when large enough to handle, allowing 30cm (12") between plants. Water well during spells of dry weather. Alternatively sow under cover in trays or cell packs and either grow in large pots or grow bags or plant outdoors. To retain maximum vitamin content, cook by steaming. Sowing - Cropping: 16-18 weeks.
Cabbage (Chinese)
 Hilton
140cm30cm x 50cmBought. Sow thinly June-July into a finely raked, moist, weed-free soil at a depth of 13mm (") in rows 38cm (15") apart. Germination 7-12 days. Thin by degrees to 30cm (12") between plants. Alternatively sow in blocks in raised beds/garden. Sowing to Cropping: 8 weeks.
Cabbage (Summer)
 Golden Acre Primo
250cm45cm x 55cmSown 5 29/04/18 - unsuccesful Bought - Andy's batch. Sow thinly March-June direct into a finely raked seedbed at a depth of 13mm (") (Germination 12-20 days). Transplant with a trowel when large enough to handle allowing 38cm (15") between plants each way. Can also be sown JanuaryFebruary in a propagator, on a windowsill or in a greenhouse at approx. 10-15°C (50-60°F) using a quality compost. Cover seeds with 6mm (") sieved compost. Transplant seedlings into 75mm (3") pots, grow on and finally plant out. Sowing Harvest 16-18 weeks.
Carrot
 Chatenay Royal
6410cm10cm x 15cmBought - Andy's batch Direct sow carrot seeds outdoors from March to July. Early varieties may also be sown from February to March in greenhouse borders or under cloches. Specific autumn sowing carrot varieties can be sown as late as October under cloches for an early crop in spring. Grow Carrots in a weed free, sunny position in fertile, light, well drained soil. Carrots dislike freshly manured soils so seed beds are best prepared in autumn, well in advance of spring sowings. Sow carrot seeds thinly at a depth of 1cm (1/2") in drills 30cm (12") apart. Germination will take 10 to 20 days. When large enough to handle, thin out the seedlings within each row to 10cm (4in) apart. Where space is limited, growing carrots in containers will also produce a worthwhile crop
Chives 4820cm15cm x 25cmPlant - not seeds. Plant direct See label for instructions.
Courgette 160cm60cm x 60cmBought. Sow singly in pots April-May under glass at 20-25°C (69-78°F). Harvest July-October (12 weeks maturity). Pick often to ensure continuity.
Cucumber 560cm60cm x 60cmSown 5 29/04/18 - unsuccesful Resown in FB2 - 23/06/18 Andy's batch. Best direct-seeded at about the time of last frost, but can be started earlier as transplants, provided the seedlings are set out before becoming rootbound. Cucumbers are heavy feeders and thrive in rich soil full of organic matter. They can be trellised if desired. A bit of afternoon shade is helpful in very hot summer-areas. Supply abundant moisture and keep picking mature fruit.
Dill 420cm15cm x 25cmBought. Plant direct - not seeds See plant label for instructions.
Leek
 Chefs White
020cm15cm x 30cmSown 15 29/04/18 - unsuccesful Bought. Sow thinly direct into a finely raked seedbed at a depth of 1.3cm (") in rows 30cm (12") apart. Germination 14-18 days. When ready to transplant make holes with a dibber 10-15cm (4-6") deep, 23cm (9") apart, drop a plant into each and fill with water to settle soil around the roots. Allow 38cm (15") between rows. To blanch, draw up earth to stems as growth develops. Leeks do well on most soils especially if well prepared. Sowing - Cropping: 35-40 weeks.
Lettuce (Headed)
 Merveille des quare saisons
425cm20cm x 30cmSown 5 29/04/18 - unsuccesful Sown direct Bought - Andy's batch Direct serial sow in small batches 3-4 times from February - April and /or August-September in lines, or blocks. 015cm10cm x 20cmBought. Direct sow onions outdoors in spring on any firm, well drained soil in full sun. Sow thinly at a depth of 1cm (1/2") and a distance of 30cm (12") between rows. Prepare the planting area several weeks in advance by incorporating some well rotted garden compost to improve drainage and soil fertility. Avoid planting onions on freshly manured soil. On particularly wet ground, try growing onions in raised beds. When large enough to handle, thin onion seedlings to 10cm (4") apart for medium sized bulbs, or at a slightly wider spacing if larger bulbs are required. Alternatively sow onion seed indoors in module trays at a depth of 1cm (1/2"), using free-draining, seed sowing compost. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a plastic bag at a temperature of 10-15C (50-59F) until after germination which usually takes 10-14 days. Once germinated, grow onions on in cool conditions until all risk of frost has passed and they are large enough to plant outdoors at a distance of 10cm (
