Sometimes I plan first and then plant; often I plant and then put it into the plan. The goal is effective companion planting and crop rotation when appropriate. The soil isn't great - I've added a lot of manure and bedding from the stable and chicken house, which may or may not have rotted properly. Currently it's all pretty hit and miss, but the long-term goal is to be self-sustaining through completely organic gardening.
