Family organic vegetable garden.
Hot, dry summers with intense sun.
Winters can get cold. Zone 6. Have seen -15o F.
The growing season is May through September.
We use soaker hoses and a lot of straw mulch. The mulch makes a world of difference - - - much less water use, helps maintain a more even soil temperature in this hot sunny climate, and the soil under the mulch is much nicer in the spring (the bugs seem to be much more active over the winter and the soil is looser).
We have a deer fence around the plot, and a 'mole chasing" windmill which actually seems to have driven off the moles and gophers.
