About this Garden Plan
Backyard home garden. Garden is 24 x 48 and is has 8 ft deer fence with gravel between beds. Large pine trees dot area around garden and gives partial shade in late afternoon. Raised beds and containers have 3-way garden mix from nursery and planted using square foot and traditional rows. Heated greenhouse used to start seedlings early due to a shorter growing season in North Idaho.

Plan Notes
This is the 4th year for the garden. Growing season in North Idaho (hardiness zone 6A) is slightly abrreviated, with some cool summer nights. Can have a hard freezed in June. Indoor seedling starts for squashes, salad cucumber, pumpkin, melons, peppers and tomatoes Feb/Mar Move to heated greenhouse in late March/early April. Second set of indoor starts will be strawberries, herbs and flowers moving greenhouse in May time frame. Direct sow all other veg late May/early June using row covers to heat soil temp in raised beds. Transplanted 5/14/18 Initial direct seeding for lettuces, radish, spinach, bok choy and chard will be staggard, 1 square foot at a time 1-2 weeks apart. Plant summer/heat resisitant variety of romaine (Valmaine) late June/early July. Peas, beans, picklers will all be planted at same time. Initial seeding 5/15/18. Asparagus started with 1 year old crowns in 2017. This is second year, will not harvest until next year. First trial with strawbale gardening (2) Planting one pumpkin in each bale. Tomatoes will be moved into greenhouse end of September to extend season for fresh fruit. Petunias are in hanging baskets. Flowers in pots around perimeter of garden. Bee and hummingbird attractors.
