About this Garden Plan
This is a raised bed garden, with small gravel walkways. These are wide enough to accommodate our wheelbarrow. Some very helpful features that we included for easy care: The garden is surrounded by a 10' electric fence. A 2 foot high plastic fencing has been added to the bottom. This flares outward to stop any small animals from entering. Debris and fall leaves can easily be blown out of the garden at anytime and will push the plastic fence out enought to release the debris, leaving the gravel in the walkways in place. The long arm of the garden is lower ph and thus contains perenials and berries. Each bed is topped off with new soil (leaf compost) each winter and rotoed in with the old. We installed brackets along the inside of every isle and use PVC pipe to form a row cover brace. Usually only one row is used each year for this cold fram and I consolidate the very early, very late vegies in that row. The long, brown lines represent verticle growing. There is an irigation system; it is the only way to go! While I do pay careful attention to crop roatation thru 'GrowVeg' I can take a bit of leeway in that because of the yearly new soil. And because of the raised bed and rich soil, I practice a version of square foot and intensive planting. Where you see a single plant, such as Falstaff Sprouts, there will actually be 2 to 3 plants growing productively in that space.
