Rows: 3" (10cm) with 3" (10cm) row gap (minimum)

Sow and Plant

Most grains can be planted in spring, but some can also be planted in fall. Either broadcast sow and cover to prevent birds eating the seeds, or sow in drills.
Our Garden Planning Tool can produce a personalized calendar of when to sow, plant and harvest for your area.

Notes

Harvesting

Most grains are harvested with a scythe or pruning shears once they’ve dried and turned yellow-brown. The grain then needs to be threshed from the seed head. If using as a cover crop, cut down before seedheads form.
